A few considerations on Audio Books
Audio books can be defined as
a new means of communication. No matter the support used (Audio CD, CD
MP3, Audio cassette) the content always includes pieces of literature
read out loud by actors/professional narrators.
While until now, in
particularly in Italy, audio books were considered mostly a surrogate
of printed books, dedicated to the blind, they do merit, nonetheless,
an important place alongside paper editions, as is demonstrated by
their wide spread use in other countries.
We know that thought, even
when considering it’s prevalently silent nature, takes form through
the sound of words. Thoughts resound in our heads; just as the reading
voice materializes in our minds during silent reading.
The pronounced word (recited)
becomes physical, sensorial; it is voice, sound elevated from the
simple state of a spot of ink on paper to become a sound event,
“music”. Reading out loud, especially if done by actors/professional
narrators, helps keep the listeners attention alive, bringing the
written work closer and greatly facilitating comprehension of the
text.
Finally, an audio book is a
means to take back that dimension of listening to which we are no
longer used to, suffocated by a interfering pseudo-culture of the
imagination.
Audio books can also be
considered an educational tool, assisting teachers in their didactic
work.
Recitar Leggendo
produces and promotes audio books, where different arts are brought
together: Literature and Acting, giving life to a product that can be
considered an artistic fact in itself, auguring for the diffusion
deserved, at the same level as paper editions.
